My boss wrote the honest message we all needed to hear this season

This morning, our team received a “Message of thanks” from our Vice President. It was powerful, honest, and real. It’s the message humanity didn’t realize it needed to hear.

Soon, we will move into the rush of Thanksgiving, so I wanted to take a moment now to share my thanks for each of you.

First, I want to share some reflections. The past two years have been hard. There’s not a single person on our team who hasn’t worked harder, lost sleep, worried more, pushed through unforeseen changes, or suffered losses in that time.

We are faced with making life decisions at one of the most fraught times in history. Even getting the most simple tasks done can feel monumentally hard, as we balance the demands of our work and our family.

When I think of our little corner of the world, I see how we are part of a bigger drama.

Individually and collectively, I sense that people are experiencing a sort of “collective depression.” This is the second pandemic. It’s a contagion of its own, and every corner of society seems impacted.

As (mostly) rational human beings, we look for a reason why we feel this way, something that we can control or someone we can blame. We want justice. We want release. We just want to feel better. We…
